If you are an international flight deal seeker like myself, then you have either experienced a long layover in a foreign city or have considered buying a ticket with a 10+ hour layover.

The following videos were created to give travelers a quick idea of what to expect, and an offering of things to do while on a long layover in either Abu Dhabi or Dublin. Both cities are big hubs for cheap flights, so it is very common to have a 10+ hour layover in Abu Dhabi or Dublin.

It is important to note that if you are flying from the U.S to Europe, you will be required to grab your checked suitcase/backpack once you land and go through customs. Some airlines will let you send your checked luggage on while you go out and explore your layover city. However, most likely you will have to pay for a locker at the airport to leave your larger luggage for the day. Day rates tend to be around $5- $25. It is always worth it to leave your big backpack secured at the airport rather than try to lug it around all day. Be sure to factor that cost into your travel plans!

Abu Dhabi Layover

Extended layovers are a blessing in disguise. Sure, layovers can be an inconvenience in some cases, but they can also be a bridge to explore a new city, country, and culture. Come along for a day in Abu Dhabi shopping at the souks, visiting the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, and trying some delicious chicken shawarma.

Have you ever experienced a long layover in Abu Dhabi? How about Dublin? I would love to hear about your experience! Send a message with your favorite layover story or contact me for more information if you have an upcoming layover!

12 Hours in Dublin

Got a layover in Dublin? Check out what all you can see and experience with just 12 hours! And for a list of my favorite spots in Dublin, check out a full write up in my Journal

How do you survive a mid length layover? What about when your flight gets delayed and you are forced to stay in the airport overnight (because budget travel am I right?)?

Hour 10 at Guangzhou Airport (Baiyun) China after a 12 hour flight from Nairobi, Kenya.

As you can see here I only carried around my essentials. This particular travel itinerary left me feeling drained, so I paid for a day pass at the International Lounge. For $40 I had endless snacks, coffee, water, wifi, and comfy chairs.

P.S. Your Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and WhatsApp will not work in China.
